Real Identity: Demetrian Titus — Combat Commander — The Sigma Marines
Lieutenant Sigma's real name is Demetrian Titus. He is a Space Marine. SPHERE does not ask how or why a Space Marine ended up available for transfer into a shadow paramilitary organization fighting eldritch monsters from an occupied island nation. The paperwork went through. He showed up. He was immediately the most qualified combat commander on the roster. Everyone moved on.
Demetrian Titus commands "The Sigma Marines" — SPHERE's elite frontline combat units. These are not ordinary soldiers. They are SPHERE's most capable conventional fighters, and they are led by a man who is himself considerably larger and more dangerous than the standard definition of "conventional." The Sigma Marines are deployed when the situation requires a wall of force rather than surgical precision — when there are a lot of Freak entities in a location and that number needs to rapidly approach zero.
The Sigma Marines are SPHERE's primary heavy combat formation. Under Lieutenant Sigma's command, they have engaged Diddler packs, Freak Goblin hordes exceeding several hundred entities, and on two documented occasions, Jizzler-class threats. Their casualty rate is high. Their mission completion rate is higher. Lieutenant Sigma attributes this to his leadership philosophy, which can be summarized as: "You will not die if you do exactly what I tell you, and if you do die, it will not be for nothing."
SPHERE has found this philosophy surprisingly effective for morale.
Lieutenant Sigma's primary capability is turning a group of soldiers into a single coordinated instrument of destruction. He reads battlefields in real time, adapts tactics to emerging conditions, and makes decisions under fire with a speed and accuracy that SPHERE's assessors have struggled to quantify. He is simply very good at commanding people in conditions designed to make command impossible.
Unlike most commanders, Lieutenant Sigma does not lead from behind. He leads from the front, directly, in person, often with a weapon. This is not recklessness — it is a deliberate tactical choice based on the demonstrated effect his personal presence has on both the morale of SPHERE forces and the threat assessment decisions of Freak entities. Something large, armored, and extremely angry charging at you from the front while shouting does affect your decision-making.
Lieutenant Sigma is qualified on every heavy weapons platform SPHERE operates. He has preferences. SPHERE does not ask about the preferences. It provides what he requests and deploys him in the direction of the problem.
His most operationally distinct capability: he can reverse a failing engagement. When SPHERE forces are being pushed back, are sustaining heavy casualties, and are at risk of total collapse, Lieutenant Sigma's personal intervention — physical presence, vocalization, direct combat participation — has been documented to stabilize the line. SPHERE analysts call this "high-charisma tactical reinsertion." The Sigma Marines call it "the Lieutenant showed up."
